VPN A VPN is a 'Virtual Private Network', which is a special encoded connection between your device and a dedicated service on special servers, which routes all of your traffic (data, messages, website requests, downloads, etc.), through that service, instead of going direct. This means that you can 'hide' your actual location from the server/website that you are accessing. This gives you more privacy and can allow you to access sites from places in the world where you might not otherwise be able to, by giving you a 'virtual' address in the country where you are trying to access that site. However, it alone does not protect you from harmful software or scams, though most services include software to help protect against malware.
